Home Improvement --Before and After

When we moved into our home 2 years ago, we knew that we didn't like the location of the back door. We couldn't afford to move the door without going into debt, so we put it on our schedule and saved our money.

We talked with several contractors. We chose one and started the project. The back door originally went out from our youngest daughter's room. We had the construction workers move it so that it would go out the back of the kitchen. They also added us a deck and restored the brick on the outside of the house. We decided that we would have them install a closet in our youngest daughter's bedroom, too. That way the room would be fully considered a fourth bedroom.

Before: the back door going out our daughter's room.

Before: No closet

Before: Exterior picture of the back door. To the left is the kitchen window.
After: We painted, and added a closet to the bedroom.

After: French doors and a new deck. (And no door to the
right.)
It took the construction workers about 5 days to complete this project. It took us about a month to do the part we were required to do (painting, installing the closet, etc.)

  1. Wow looks really good. It's great to get big projects done like that! We still have 1/2 our basement to finish and we can't wait for the day we can afford to add that bathroom and a nice big family room!!

    1. Thank you. We are really happy to have it done. I know how you feel. We were anxious to get the door moved from the first day we moved in.

  2. A great transformation. Good work on knowing what you want and saving until you can afford to get it.

    1. Thanks, Beth. My husband and I are committed to that sort of behavior--waiting until we can afford something to buy it. We are trying hard to train our children towards that, too. It will save them a lot of heartache if they will learn that lesson. :)

    1. Thanks, Kris. Now that we have had rain, you really cannot tell that it was changed. It looks like it was originally built that way. We are really happy with it. And we were really happy with the contractors, too. They did a great job and were courteous, and kept us informed about what was going on and were even careful not to curse in front of my children. :)
